Kodachrome Basin Park, Utah (View Photos):
For anyone visiting the wonders of southern Utah, a dilemma occurs when deciding on which of the many beautiful places to explore in a limited amount of time. Kodachrome Basin State Park is a 4000 acre jewel nestled in the heart of Utah's brilliant red rock canyon wilderness that should be placed on everyone's list of must-see locales. Bryce Canyon National Park and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument are nearby.
The sandstone formations of Kodachrome Basin are painted in a bright spectrum of colors, typical of this outstanding high-desert southwestern region. Most striking of all perhaps are the 60-70 monolithic spires known as chimneys that spring up from the valley floor. They can be spotted from the main road and along various hiking trails. Overall, this is a very pleasant and endearing park that offers a quiet desert experience with spirit-soothing geology in a range of vivid colors.
